I've watched this trick done several times by different magicians and they all work with the method I just explained. We never get the see the first 20 pages.Įdit: Whoever downvoted me should explain to me why this method is incorrect (unless it's Shawn himself who did it to try to hide the fact that I guessed it correctly). And when the woman tries to grab the book to examine it, he pulls it back. Then go to 8:30 in the video and notice how he only flips through the pages after the first 20 pages. Also notice that no matter what page she requests, he flips to the same exact page (which is near the beginning - roughly page 15-20). You can clearly see that there's text on the book. Watch this video of the trick: Freeze the video at: 2:33 and 5:01. This was clearly a lie because if you freeze the video at a certain point, you can see that his glasses originally did have lenses. But he did a glasses swap at the end to make the "reveal" that there are no lenses in his glasses. The notes are probably written very small, so he really does need them. But that's not necessary, because he could just prevent the book from being inspected afterwards. He can also clean this trick up nicely by having some kind of double sided tape on the cheat page to tape the two pages together and hide the cheat notes. Notice how when he flips through all the pages, he doesn't show every single page. So how does the trick work? He just turns to that one page that has the cheat sheet but all the other pages are blank. Therefore, entire pages in the book can be encoded down to just one short line. And then you can put something like 4 6 "Watson", which would mean the 4th paragraph 6th word is Watson. Where it'd mean that there's 5 paragraphs, and the first paragraph has 3 sentences. The code can be written very small because you can pack information such as the number of paragraphs, and how many sentences per paragraph. Allison can't say something like, "Okay, what's the fourth word in the third paragraph?". He only says number of paragraphs and other things. Notice how he doesn't say everything on the page that Allison turns to. Shawn flips to a certain page that isn't blank. I'm not 100% sure if I remember correctly how this trick is done, but I think it goes something like this: This should be a big clue on how this trick is done (i.e. If I recall, you can actually buy this magic trick off him and he GIVES YOU the books. Ah, I solved for this magic trick back when it came out.
